About Me
I’m Jordan Kwarcinski, an artist and graphic designer from the United States. I specialize in digital illustration, though I’ve also branched out into photo manipulation and typography. I’m studying graphic design at Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa, and I’ve really enjoyed being in a community with other artists.
I was 12 years old when I first started drawing, sketching portraits of my classmates in the margins of my 7th grade pre-algebra notes. I remember trying so hard to get their proportions, their expressions, the lay of their hair just right. Today, when I draw people, I put a lot of importance in making their pose and expressiveness feel true to life.
With my art, my main goal is to take the concepts on the page and breathe life into them. This is true whether I’m making the person in a digital portrait feel authentic and real, or designing a poster where the ideas need to jump off the page and grab the attention of passerby.
I’ve used my skill with design to contribute to several projects in the Sioux City area— I’m currently the art director of Kiosk Art and Literary Magazine, and I was a freelance designer for Trimtab Foods. My creative work has also been featured in the 2023 Orange City Art Show, the 2025 Design on the Edge Exhibition, and most recently, my own exhibition Living Inside the Canvas.
My Art
As a writer, the aspect of art that I’m most excited to make use of is the ability of images to tell rich stories. One major lesson I’ve learned in my writing education is the powerful effect of leaving some parts of the story unseen; in visual art, I’ve found a medium that allows me to show the viewer enough to let them understand the shape of the story they’re seeing, while still keeping them wondering.
My work is primarily digital, and I’ve spent the past six years of my life mastering the tools of various programs. I’ve learned how to apply those tools to create not just a style that I feel confident in, but a method for constructing visual narratives that hold enough life to draw viewers in. I make careful use of color, composition, and symbol to give my scenes a sense of depth. My pieces are inspired by the worlds of authors I admire, as well as from my own experiences. I draw heavily from my lifelong interests in astronomy and fantasy when I create my work. My hope is for observers of my art to stop and spend a moment in the world created by my pieces— taking in the emotion and stakes of what they’re seeing, while also thinking about what they might not be seeing.
